A Supportive Space for Teens and Adolescents to Grow
The teenage, pre-teen, and adolescent years are a time for growth and self-exploration, with its own set of challenges along the way. Teens and adolescents can feel overwhelmed by school pressures, friendship dynamics, identity exploration, planning their future, and emotional ups and downs, and transitioning toward independence. Having a safe space to talk and receive trusted guidance can make a major difference in their life. I provide teens with a safe and supportive therapeutic environment. My goal is to help your child learn how to identify and express thoughts and emotions to others, learn healthful ways to cope, challenge thoughts of self-doubt, and set healthy boundaries with others.
Offering a Safe Space
Therapy takes developing trust, and I want your child to know that they are safe, and are in a judgment-free space. This is essential for teens who may be hesitant to open up at home. I'm here to meet your child where they are at, and take therapy at a pace that feels comfortable for them. Therapy can only work when a person feels safe and wants to change in their life. I understand how to connect with teens and adolescents who are ready for help, and how to develop a professional relationship with them based on respect, empathy, and trust.
How Sessions With Teens and Adolescents Work
I provide developmentally-appropriate psycho-education and evidence-based techniques to support my clients make the therapeutic progress they're looking for. My approaches include:
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for reframing unhelpful thoughts
Mindfulness exercises to manage stress and improve emotion identification skills
Creative expression through writing, art, or play
Communication skill-building for improved relationships
Learning ways to set healthful boundaries with others
I understand that your child does not live in a bubble, and so it is imperative to have parents be a part of treatment. Depending on your child's needs that may range from participating in an initial session to discuss current concerns and treatment goals along with periodic check-ins, and can include separate parenting-focused sessions and joint sessions as needed.
